On November 3rd, the seminar ‘Cyberthreats above water’ was organized in The Hague, as a joint effort by Water-ISAC and Vewin. The seminar had full focus on cyber security awareness in the drinking water sector. The Dutch water companies were each represented by their line management, production, PA, ICT, security and crisis management. Furthermore, representatives of the NCSC that are involved with the Water-ISAC were present.
After Leo de Waal, chairman of the Water-ISAC opened the seminar, Vewin director Renée Bergkamp gave a speech on the cyber security threats for the drinking water sector. After the NCSC presentation on the importance of public-private corporation, Marcel Jutte, Managing Director of Hudson Cybertec and chairman of ISA Netherlands Section, gave a presentation titled ‘Does the fear of cold water keep you aside?’ The presentation addressed awareness in cyber security. The basis of cyber security, as well as threats and risks were discussed. Jutte explained how Process Automation and Office Automation differ in necessary countermeasures and security standards to be used.
The seminar was completed with a hacking demonstration by ABB and the simulation game Kaspersky Industrial Protection Simulation. The organizers, presenting parties and participants of the drinking water companies, all look back at a very successful, interactive and informative seminar.
