Last November, Hudson Cybertec gave a 3-day cyber security training to companies in the Norwegian Oil & Gas industry, in Sandvika, Norway. The training was held from November 8 to 10 and was held by request of DNV-GL. The participating companies to the training are united in a Joint Industry Project (JIP), which is a sector-wide initiative for the practical use of the IEC 62443 standard in the oil and gas industry
Participants to the training came from oil & gas companies Lundin, Shell and Statoil. Furthermore employees from ABB, Emerson, Honeywell, Kongsberg Maritime, Siemens, Aker Solutions and DNV-GL participated in the training.
During the training cyber security for the Industrial Automation & Control Systems (IACS) was handled, something all participating companies have to deal with. The IEC 62443 Cyber Security standard for IACS environments was handled extensively and indepth. Main goal of the training was to give all participants a common basis to further build upon the the JIP.
Embracing the IEC 62443 standard by JIP is yet another confirmation that the standard plays in increasingly important role in cyber security for IACS environments. The market demand is further expanding, not only from within the oil & gas industry, but from other critical infrastructure sectors as well. End-users, suppliers of IACS systems and system integrators increasingly see the big advantages that the IEC 62443 standard has to offer. End-users have increasing demands to their suppliers and system integrators, for a demonstrable knowledge about the IEC 62443 standard and support thereof. Adopting the IEC 62443 allows them to communicate their cyber security demands and wishes in a uniform way to suppliers and system integrators, allowing end-users to manage cyber security of their IACS environments.
